This is very true. The thing I am most afraid of is love. When you say you love someone you are giving them license to hurt you. The only way to avoid this danger is to never say it.
For years, I thought such a statement was not only absurd, but ridiculous as well. After all, who could be afraid of love? So I never said it and if I did, no one knew. It really wasn’t until we were married that I realized that yes, indeed, it is possible to be afraid of love and that even the most innocent expression of it could cause me great pain and harm.
That’s why it is so dangerous to go around saying “I love you” without having any way of knowing who you are loving or what they will do with such a proclamation.
